There is nothing so useless as doing efficiently that which should not be done at all. - Peter Drucker
On the seventh day, God said, “Ship it! We’ll release patches later.” - Josh Flachsbart
Be not afraid of going slowly, be afraid only of standing still. - Chinese proverb
When we talk about management, most of the time we give it a negative connotation, it's seen by us
developers as the dark, ugly, and bad place where nobody really understands us, full of arrogant bosses who
want us to do overtime to deliver it yesterday to meet their promises to someone else. Well... that's
the classic stereotype, there's a lot more behind it.
By switching to management you can understand how people behave in organisations, and how to handle
authority, influence and leadership. The reality is that is totally a different career track compared to
software development, it gives you a different perspective of what's happening on the upper levels and
insights on business expectations.
Anyway, once tried if you don't like it can always switch back to individual contributor.
